Rediscover Summer with This Tick and Flea Prevention Guide
Discover natural, high-frequency strategies to protect yourself from ticks without chemicals or fear.
Welcome to Summer! If they haven’t made an appearance in your area yet, the dog days will soon be there. While many people imagine visits to the beach and the lull of ocean waves during the summer season, others enjoy treks in the forest — or even their own backyards. It’s the season to get outside and enjoy Nature. It also happens to be the season that Nature in the form of fleas and ticks enjoys a little time with us and our furry friends, too.
How can you reduce your risk of bringing home a tick or a flea (or two or three)? Here are some tips to prevent ticks and fleas from catching a ride into your home.
🛡️ Natural Tick Prevention Checklist
Ticks are not just a nuisance. They are messengers reminding us to fortify our inner and outer terrain. In a world overflowing with chemicals and fear-based responses, we choose to walk in Nature with awareness, grace, and natural defense. This guide helps you do just that — protect yourself from ticks while aligning with the Earth’s rhythms and your body’s wisdom.
✅ Before You Enter Nature
Boost Your Terrain
Drink a morning detox elixir: warm water + lemon + pinch of sea salt.
Add immune allies: Chaga tea, reishi powder, or Vitamin C.
Apply Natural Repellents (avoid DEET or toxic sprays)
Essential Oils: Mix and spray on clothes/skin:
10 drops rose geranium or citronella geranium
8 drops cedarwood
6 drops eucalyptus
2 oz spring water + 1 tsp apple cider vinegar (as base)
Dress with Purpose
Light-colored clothing (to see ticks)
Long sleeves and pants tucked into socks
Wide-brim hat for scalp protection
Try the Bug Jacket! This is my favorite jacket to keep the bugs away.
Energetic Alignment
Ground with breath: inhale peace, exhale fear.
Set the intention: “My energy is sovereign. No parasites welcome.”
🌱 While In Nature
Stay on Clear Paths
Avoid brushing against high grass, leaf litter, or brush.
Ticks climb up blades of grass and anything that overhangs a path to catch a ride on you if you brush up against it.
Carry an Herbal Satchel
Small cloth pouch with citronella, eucalyptus, rosemary, cloves, dried citrus peel.
Hydrate & Vibrate High
Drink coconut water or spring water with chlorophyll drops.
Listen to Nature, stay present, and honor the Earth.
🌕 After Your Adventure
For Your Pups
Roll over their fur — all over! — with a lint brush to trap crawling / unattached ticks.
For fleas, use a flea comb. If you have a double-coated breed, work down to the skin on the back and front of the neck, as well as the base of the tail to look.
Dark brown specs will turn red with a drop of water — these are flea droppings.
Immediate Full-Body Scan
Check scalp, behind ears, underarms, groin, backs of knees, and ankles.
Place clothes in a clean bag and put in the dryer set on high heat. No dryer? No problem! Lay clothes flat in the sunshine away from pets and family.
Shower with Anti-Parasitic Herbs
Use a scrub made of bentonite clay + raw honey + turmeric to draw toxins.
Ticks don’t mind the moisture, but they do mind the heat. Try alternating between hot and cold water.
If Bitten: Respond, Don’t React
Remove tick safely with tweezers: grab the body right at the skin and pull back firmly — but not too hard! It’s important to draw the head out.
Disinfect with wild oregano oil or coated silver. You can also use a paste made with andrographis and charcoal or bentonite clay (whichever you have on hand).
At all times, continue to support your immune system with:
High-dose Vitamin C
Activated charcoal for detox
Detox with RUG: clearing your body of any unwanted guests will reduce your toxic burden, making your body better able to fight any infection introduced by fleas and ticks.
💫 In Your Own Backyard…
Here are two natural ways to control ticks on your own property:
Nematodes: Used to control crop pests, nematodes also enter and kill ticks, especially engorged female ticks, preventing the next generation.
Guinea Hens: These backyard fowl enjoy scavenging for insects, including the pernicious tick population.
Diatomaceous Earth: Dehydration rules with ticks and fleas. Using DE will pierce them and dehydrate them. Try on your carpet and dog beds, too, if you have a flea infestation in the home.
🌎 Earth Healer’s Reminder
“When you detox your inner world, your outer world follows. A well-tuned body in harmony with the Earth does not attract parasites — seen or unseen.”
